City of Hope

A cancer diagnosis is life-changing. This is why choosing where to be treated is one of the most important decisions a person can make – especially when it could require traveling far from home. At City of Hope, we are known for our multidisciplinary, state-of-the-art cancer treatment center. We are dedicated to integrating our medical research and clinical care, speeding the application of scientific discoveries into better, more effective cancer treatments.

We are one of only 41 comprehensive cancer centers in the United States, the highest designation bestowed by the National Cancer Institute for Excellence in cancer treatment, research, prevention and education. We have been consistently ranked as one of “America′s Best Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report for more than 10 years.

Hope in action:

  • With cancer, specialized care matters. Here our internationally recognized physicians are in one location. Our physicians form an integrated care team around each patient, combining their expertise to develop an individualized treatment plan. Inpatient satisfaction at City of Hope is much higher than the national average and ranked in the top percentile. We also have exceptional nurse-to-patient ratios.
  • Since physicians at City of Hope performed their first bone marrow transplant in 1976, more than 12,000 transplants have been completed for patients across the globe, making ours one of the largest leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma programs in the world. City of Hope has the best outcomes, including for the most complicated patients, year after year. For the nine years in a row, we have been the only bone marrow and stem cell transplant center to exceed expectations for one-year survival, according to the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research.
  • For a majority of cancers, surgery is a viable option that can lead to a cure. We have some of the most experienced surgeons for major cancers, including liver, lung, colorectal and stomach cancer. In particular, City of Hope has performed nearly 10,000 robotic and laparoscopic surgeries. These minimally invasive surgeries allow for removal of cancer while allowing rapid recovery.
  • Disease prevention is a key component in our approach. We provide comprehensive cancer risk assessments that take into account family history and genetics, environmental and lifestyle factors. City of Hope also provides patients with specific, personalized steps to mitigate risks.
  • Our doctors and scientists use highly sophisticated techniques to assess the genetic makeup of each patient′s cancer, resulting in the most promising treatments for each cancer case that provide the highest hopes for success.

When it′s time to return home, our physicians will provide treatment records to ensure a healthy transition so that patients can lead productive lives, enjoy the support of their families and feel like themselves again.
